Keep/Toss

Keep/Toss

Spring has arrived!
This is the time of year people start looking into their closets to see where they can make room for new styles… We are here to help you choose what to KEEP and what to Toss for Spring 2013!

Keep
  1. Maxi Dresses and Skirts: These flattering styles have been hip for the past couple of seasons and still continue to be. They are slimming, flattering, and easy to wear in the summer.
  2. Cross-body bags: These versatile handbags have gotten popular in the past few seasons and continue to be favorites. Not only are they cute and easy, but they minimize pressure on your shoulder and help you to carry less that you don’t need in your bag.
  3. Nautical Styles: This preppy look is both classic, hip and perfect for the warmer months. White, royal/navy blue, and red are staples to this look, as well as stripes and woven bags.
**If you love a piece, but don’t know how to wear it, try modifying it with a belt, statement jewelry, or jacket.

Toss

  • Clothes you haven’t worn in 2+ years.
  • Items that have stretched out, pilled, or faded.
  • Pieces that make you feel heavier, older, or more boring than you are.
  • Items that no longer fit, and emanate guilt from the shelves of your closet.
  • Pieces that don’t properly fit—your body or your personality. The most uncomfortable clothing is that which makes you feel out of place in your own skin.
That being said, the #1 rule in dressing fashionably is wearing what makes you feel good. If you are confident, comfortable, and happy in a piece, its a KEEPER! No matter the season, style, fabric, or cut. If you can rock it, you will look like the BEAUTIFUL person you are!

    One Scarf, Four Ways

    One Scarf, 4 ways…

We took the same square tasseled scarf in 4 different prints and tied it in a variety of ways to create 4 unique ways to accessorize!
Check out the tips below to learn how to tie these scarves for yourself!

    Simple Triangle Tie

A super easy and versatile way to tie a scarf!

    1. Using a triangle scarf, fold it in half diagonally.
    2. Place the large point of the triangle in the front of your chest.
    3. Crisscross the two ends around the back of your neck and pull around to the front.

    Triangle Tie #2:

This tie is perfect for plain t-shirts and simple dresses.

    1. Fold square scarf in half diagonally.
    2. Tie the two ends of the scarf together over your shoulder.
    3. There will be two layers hanging in a triangle over your chest, take the top layer and tuck the point in to the know over your shoulder.

Belt: Tying this cute flower belt is quick and easy. This is a fun way to belt sundresses and simple shirts that is comfortable and colorful.

    1. Using a square scarf, fold it in half diagonally and place the triangle in the back.
    2. Crisscross the ends of the scarf at the location you want your flower.
    3. Start twisting the two ends around each other until you have reached the end.
    4. Wrap the twisted ends in a circle around the center and tuck the ends up through the center of the flower. TA DA!

    Headband:

This is the ultimate trick to change a messy bun into a hairstyle that looks like you spent time in front of the mirror.

    1. Fold a square scarf in half diagonally, continue folding until you are left with a long rectangle.
    2. place the center of the rectangle over your forehead, tie the ends at the nape of your neck.
    3. pull ends over your shoulder.

    Another way to layer...

    Layering…

Today’s post is all about it, and this is the season to do it!
While it has been unseasonably warm in Chico lately, we know to expect a few more days (at the least) of chilly weather, and at least some cooler mornings. We all know about the art of layering clothes, but in this post we will look at how to layer accessories, and in doing so create the perfect compliment to layered outfits.

Scarves: We combined two lighter weight scarves to create this look. By placing the purple and orange tassel scarf on first, and then layering the floral scarf on top of it, and tucking until we liked the look, we created a voluminous pop of color that would be perfect with any T-shirt and jeans.

    Bracelets:

This stack of bracelets is not only beautiful, but fun and comfortable. Creating a layered bracelet look involves personal taste and comfort. I enjoy mixing leather, metal, stones and fabric…color and neutrals. In this look I mixed dainty and heavy, dark and light, polished and rustic to create a fun and eye catching wrist-full of treasure!

    Necklaces:

Using these 4 beautiful necklaces (ranging in price from $20-$108) we created a look that is simultaneously delicate and bold. We used lighter weight pieces for the longer layers, and a chunky and bold crystal necklace, as well as a very dainty short necklace to create this look. The key to layering necklaces is to counterbalance delicate and chunky jewelry in your layer set. I personally enjoy using more dainty pieces for my longer necklaces in order to minimize the weight on my neck. Layering necklaces this way allows for you to create wearable looks that are stunning for occasions and every day.

    Peplum 3 ways

    Peplum 3 Ways

This week a few Meccans have asked me how you wear these fun deconstructed peplum tops. Peplum is all over the place this season, and these softer silhouettes are a great accessible version of the more architectural types I’ve been seeing around. For those of you who are wondering, Peplum is defined as: A short flared, gathered, or pleated strip of fabric attached at the waist of a woman’s jacket, dress, or blouse. The golden rule to wearing peplum is to pair the flare of the shirt with a fitted bottom. Below you can see these sweet shirts paired with a pencil skirt, skinny jeans, and a bodycon slip. Voila! a spring outfit that is flattering on so many body types!
